The Preservation and Development Committee (P&D) deals with neighborhood development, affordable housing, historic preservation, city planning and alcohol licenses.

The P&D committee works with developers who want to build new structures or significantly modify existing structures. In particular, developers typically come before the committee to seek support for variances they are requesting from the city. The committee does not typically review developments that can be built “by right,” meaning structures that do not need special city approval.

The P&D committee also reviews new requests for alcohol or entertainment licenses in the neighborhood, as well as changes to existing licenses.

The committee works with interested parties to ensure that development meets the needs of the neighborhood to the fullest extent possible. The committee relies on, and works to appropriately influence, City of Madison ordinances and neighborhood plans.

The Preservation and Development Committee does not review minor house alterations, garages, or sheds.

The committee meets 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. We meet a the Wil-Mar Neighborhood Center, 504 S. Brearly St, Madison, WI 53703.
